STARTS & FINISHES

JUNE 2017

As Alexander rounded the corner toward his three-week birthday, Daddy was rounding the final corner and heading to the finish line of a sprint triathlon, in Manassas, VA.

The humility of being flabby (relative to what I am used to being) and out of shape, is second only to the overwhelming humility of being a new Dad. Still, I want to set a positive example for our son...I want from his earliest memory, to remember seeing Dad working hard, training harder, and always making sure every event was a family event.

That said, this trip back to some semblance of fitness is certainly a humbling one...  //DE

COMING HOME

JUNE 2017

I'm not sure I've ever driven slower or yelled more at other drivers than I did on the 2.1mi drive from the hospital back to our home, in Arlington. As my beautiful wife sat in the backseat with our amazing baby boy, I caught myself glancing in the rearview mirror as much as I did to the front and peripheral.

For a guy who writes and talks for a living, I'm completely beyond words in terms my feelings about being a Dad. One year ago, I became a husband. Twelve months and 22 days later, I became a father and WE became a family. Life is amazing...  //DE

FOX NEWS: TIGER

MAY 2017

Just 28hrs after Alexander was born, I got a call while standing in the hallway outside Hilary's hospital room. It was Elise at FOX Business, asking if I could join Neil Cavuto on his program, Coast to Coast, to discuss the recent DUI arrest of troubled golfer, Tiger Woods. The worker in me was full gas, the new dad in me, was full-stop Thankfully, Hilary smiled and said "you're absolutely you're going to do it...this'll be the first time your son can see you on national television."  Wow. Perspective.

I enjoyed talking with Neil about the continued brand-side fall-out of Tiger's multi-year string of off-course decisions and the cumulative PR damage they've caused. To be clear, golf needs Tiger and more importantly, children of color need Tiger as an example of what's possible. My analysis was--and always is--tone neutral. I'm rooting for Tiger. Period.  //DE

OUR SON ARRIVES

MAY 2017

At 03:23 on May 29, 2017, the Good Lord blessed Hilary and I with a beautiful, healthy, happy baby boy. I am proud to announce that Alexander Loflin Eldridge is here! Our boy was 22in long and 8lb 9oz. At our final 3D ultra-sound--about 6wks before he was born--Little Bull was really a big guy, measuring out at 93% for length (height) and was incredibly active.

It's hard to process the love, thanks, and overwhelming sense of humility that I'm feeling right now. I don't know what the Good Lord deemed me worthy of such a beautiful family--and such an awesome responsibility--but I will work the rest of my life to make good on His faith in me.  //DE
